The U.S.S. Niagara.
In the fall of 1863, William B. Gould joins the U.S.S. Niagara, which, after its involvement in the successful capture of the Chesapeake hijacked by the Confederates in December '63, visits in New York and Boston and embarks on a voyage to Europe in search of the Confederate cruisers built by the British and French. This photograph shows the U.S.S. Niagara at the Boston Navy Yard circa 1863. The Bunker Hill Monument is in the background. (U.S. Naval Historical Center Photograph, NH 57980)
