William B. Gould's service begins on the U.S.S. Cambridge, where he serves, first as a Boy and then as a Landsman, from September 1862 through the spring of 1863. The Cambridge was assigned to the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, patrolling the coasts of Virginia, North and South Carolina. (U.S. Naval Historical Center Photograph, NH 61565)
