The figurehead of the U.S. Steam Frigate Niagara.
The caption in the handwriting of my great-grandfather reads: "Figurehead of the U.S. Steam Frigate "Niagara" built on the model of the yacht, America, that won the yacht race in England in 1851, by George Steers, of New York. The 'Niagara' assisted in laying the first Atlantic cable to Europe". To view a close-up of the figurehead, click here.
