The Porters Neck area where the Nixon Plantation was located.
As the U.S.S. Cambridge, approached the shore of North Carolina in Rich Inlet in February 1863 WBG wrote: "Took A good look at the place that I left in (62)." In February 1997 I went to the land next to Rich Inlet on Figure Eight Island and looked back to the shore as he must have done that day. William B. Gould was looking directly at the Nicholas Nixon Plantation at Porters Neck. This is the view of the Porters Neck area where the Nixon Plantation was located. Rich Inlet is to the far right.
